Stop Peripheral Artery Disease Early
8.5 million Americans have peripheral artery disease (PAD). PAD happens when blood vessels become narrow or blocked by plaque. You’re more likely to have PAD if you smoke or have diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.
Left untreated, PAD can lead to a loss of circulation, gangrene and amputation.
Learn more about PAD at a free panel discussion and question and answer session.

Imaging & Screening
The right diagnosis can make the difference. Our diagnostic options include non-invasive tests like cardiac MRI. We also offer new imaging tools to help us diagnose and treat your heart or vascular condition like cardiac PET, a type of nuclear imaging that uses very low doses of radioactivity to look at your heart.
Catch Vascular Disease Sooner
Early detection and treatment of vascular disease can reduce your risk for a heart attack or stroke.
New MR-Conditional ICD Device
Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) treat dangerous heart rhythms. But routine MRIs aren’t recommended for patients with ICDs.
UVA is the first in the state to implant a new type of ICD (Medtronic Evera MRI SureScan® ICD System) that allows patients to have routine MRI scans. A major advance, these new devices, called MR-conditional ICDs, provide critical therapy for fast and slow heart rhythms.
